Editorial & Source Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
This policy explains how Open Paper Call collects, summarizes, verifies, updates, and displays call-for-papers information.
1. Primary sources
Our preferred sources are official publisher and journal pages. Initial publisher coverage includes sources such as Emerald, Wiley, SAGE, and Elsevier. Open Paper Call does not treat social-media reposts, anonymous lists, or third-party aggregators as authoritative sources for core deadline and journal fields.
2. Information we may display
- call or special-issue title;
- journal and publisher name;
- submission deadline and, where available, opening date;
- guest editor names;
- research discipline and topic tags;
- a concise original summary;
- a link to the official call;
- the date on which the source was last checked.
3. Original summaries and automated assistance
Open Paper Call does not aim to reproduce publisher call text. Short summaries are written as original paraphrases to help users understand the central topic quickly. Automated tools may assist with summarization and classification, but summary generation is separated from factual deadline and journal extraction.
Automated output must not invent journal rankings, indexing claims, article-processing charges, acceptance rates, eligibility rules, submission deadlines, or other facts that are not supported by the source. New or changed records are subject to validation and editorial curation before or during publication, with questionable records placed in a review workflow.
4. Deadline handling
Where possible, deadlines are extracted directly from the official source and stored as structured dates. If a source says that a deadline is ongoing, rolling, to be determined, or otherwise unclear, Open Paper Call may display that wording rather than infer a date.
5. Publisher requests and corrections
If a publisher, journal, editor, or user identifies outdated or incorrect information, they may contact us. We may correct, temporarily hide, or remove a record while it is reviewed.
6. Journal indexing and metric information
When journal metrics are displayed, Open Paper Call identifies the source and applicable reference period. The Journal Finder currently uses the stated SCImago Journal & Country Rank dataset for year-specific SJR information. Indexing status and journal metrics are different concepts and are treated separately.
Journal information may distinguish:
- Indexing status: whether a journal is listed in a specified source list as of a stated check date;
- SJR quartile: a year-specific quartile where reuse is permitted;
- Other metrics: only when public display is authorised and attribution requirements are met.
Open Paper Call will not present a metric as current merely because a journal is currently indexed. Historical quartiles will include their reference year.
7. Update frequency
Call records may be rechecked on different schedules according to their closing date and source stability. Journal indexing data may be updated on a separate schedule, such as a monthly our database data refresh, while annual metrics remain tied to their published reference year.
8. Copyright and source links
Open Paper Call uses publisher information for discovery and factual metadata purposes and links users to the official source for complete details. We avoid republishing substantial publisher text. Publisher names, logos, journal names, and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.
